21 April 2022 – Biogas Technology and Information Center (BTIC), with the support from UNIDO/GEF project “Reduction of Greenhouse gas emission through Promotion of Commercial Biogas Plants”, hosted a visit for a group of seven-grade students from East-West International School with the purpose of expanding the knowledge of and stimulating interest of young students in sustainable living through biogas technologies as a source of alternative and renewable energy and a way of proper waste management practices.
During the visit, 2 groups of 40 students with teacher representatives had a productive tour in BTIC research facilities along with the brief overview on the context of implementation and development of commercial biogas in Cambodia and the technical presentation on the biogas system from BTIC experts. The students were also integrated with the knowledges on the importance of the environmental protection, the adaptation of green lifestyle, the community’s socio-economic well-being and the contribution to Sustainable Development Goals; and how the efficient biogas solutions could significantly contribute through treating waste, producing renewable energy and creating renewable plant nutrients.
The visit was concluded with a reflection session where the students, teachers and BTIC team members gathered to discuss on the learning outcome, and impression. The students said it was such a great opportunity for them to get to know and enrich the knowledge on the commercial biogas plant, its energy system and its benefits as an innovative mean to manage waste and generate energy. At the same time, a teacher representative expressed their contentment for the hosting activities and impressive knowledge sharing, and indicated the significance of this visit as a momentous action to grow the students’ mindset at the very young age on the importance of environment and planet protection and how we can contribute. They also hoped that this kind of visit activities could give the students the foundation for better outlook on their further educational and professional choices.
Mr. Lor Lytour, BTIC Director, showed his appreciation to East-West International school and the students for their initiative and interest to learn and understand more about biogas system and its application toward sustainability. On behalf of BTIC as a knowledge sharing center, he encouraged for such kind of study visit and determine to advocate for more.
