UNIDO in collaboration with the Royal University of Agriculture (RUA) of Cambodia launched a BTIC in Phnom Penh on December 8, 2016. The Centre aims to build the country’s technical capacity and know-how on commercial biogas technology, as well as to establish networks among existing biogas centres and stakeholders in the region. In particular, it will contribute to harnessing the potential of biogas energy from pig farms, a currently untapped, clean, indigenous source of energy for rural electrification and also a way of mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. The launch ceremony brought together around 100 participants from relevant ministries, as well as development partners, embassies, business association, chamber of commerce, commercial bank, NGOs, swine businesses, academia and students.
