BTIC received Introductory Training on Biogas Technologies from Energy Research and Development Institute (ERDI) based in Thailand

PHNOM PENH, 14-16 March: United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in collaboration with Royal University of Agriculture through Biogas Technology and Information Center and Energy and Energy Research and Development Institute (ERDI) based in Thailand, organized a three-day Introductory Training Workshop on Commercial Biogas from Pig Manure: solutions for rural electrification and GHG mitigation in Cambodia. The objective of the training is to provide a basic understanding to participants on biogas production, treatment and utilization of biogas produced from pig manure at medium and large commercial farms in Cambodia.

The training is very useful in the way that it has stimulated the interest of the trainees in commercial biogas technology comparing to household scale bio-digester. It helps enlighten overall picture of the whole biogas system and I become better aware about the system”, said Ms. Yoeu Asikin, Outreach and Content Management Team Leader of BTIC.

Further added to the above comment, Mr. Him Sambath, Interim Technical Manager of National Biodigester Program (NBP), said: “I hope to have the opportunity to join the next training which provides more (technical) details on the commercial biogas system and its utilization in Cambodian context”.

The training participated by 20 trainees from academic, governmental entities (including National Council for Sustainable Development, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ministry of Mines and Energy) as well as commercial bank, of whom 25% are women. The training was organized under the framework of the project “Reduction of GHG emission through promotion of commercial biogas plants”, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
